About the Show

In a suburban Southern California house, aspiring screenwriter Austin is busy writing his screenplay to impress a bigshot Hollywood producer. In the peace and quiet of the desert, he taps away at his typewriter until his oasis is shattered by his wayward brother, Lee, stumbling unexpectedly through the door. Lee has been living rough in the desert, surviving by stealing and petty crime, and when he pitches his own trashy Western to Austin’s producer, the brothers’ rivalry spirals into a vicious battle for success, identity and control. Sam Shepard's darkly comic modern classic is a volatile two-hander about sibling rivalry, masculinity, ambition, and the destructive ways we can become the people we hate most. 'A bare-knuckle brawl between old myths and new illusions, civilisation and savagery, creativity and commerce, played out in sibling strife.” The Times “The text is trip-wired to detonate quietly at first, then work up to a blast of open warfare.” American Theatre “A viciously funny and tragic portrayal of two brothers.” Louisville Public Media
